The Earth travels around the sun in an orbit that is in an elliptical (oval) shape. The sun is not in the center of the oval, but nearer to one end. The point in Earth's orbit when it is closest to the sun is called the perihelion, and that is also the point when the Earth is traveling fastest in its orbit.

Where it is furthest from the sun (aphelion) is where it is traveling slowest.

Why must satellites in Leo travel very fast?

Satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) must travel fast to continue orbiting the Earth without falling back down due to gravity. The high speed helps to balance the force of gravity to keep the satellite in orbit. Additionally, the fast speed allows the satellite to complete its orbit around the Earth in a relatively short amount of time.
