A "bastille" is a battlement fortified building. The name comes from bataille (battle).

The Bastille got its name as soon as the first design of the 2-tower building was completed. The fortified building later received 2 more towers and then 4 more, for a grand total of 8 towers, making it an even more impressive bastille.
