The American Saddlebred was crated in Kentucky for plantation owners. The breed was developed using the Narragansett Pacer and Thoroughbreds, this created a type of horse called the American horse it later became the 'Kentucky saddler' after the Revolutionary War. In the 1830's Morgan horses were used on the breed and more Thoroughbred blood was added.After this time the breed became known as the American Saddlebred.

If you watch the old westerns, some of John Waynes are good examples, you will see that just about everybody was mounted on a Saddlebred.
