technetium may not be natrualy produced but it can still be found in small amounts in the environment.

it comes in very small amounts. it can only come from where a nuclear explosion has ocoured, after the nuclear explosion technetium is left behind.

but it will not last very long because of its short half life and so will be gone in a short amount of time.

the main kinds of explosions that cause technetuim to be in the natural environment would be things such as, nuclear power stations exploding.

although now a days this is very rare there have been few explsions, but you may also find it where a neclear bomb has been exploded.

Why does technetium not naturally occur on earth?

A small amount of technetium is now in our earths environment, this is due to: - Nuclear bombs - Nuclear testing - Nuclear Accidents eg the Chernobyl disaster this is where technetium come from in small amounts in our environment. - There is additionally technetium present quite abundantly (up to about 5%) in nuclear reactor waste, and a small amount of this has escaped to the environment. - And finally, technetium is naturally present in our environment, but only in really tiny quantities in uranium ore. One tonne of a high grade uranium ore might typically contain 0.1 to 0.2 micrograms of technetium, which can be detected by its radiation signal. A very small proportion of natural uranium atoms undergo spontaneous fission (break in half) in the natural environment, and technetium is a likely product.

How was the element technetium developed?

Technetium was the first element to be artificially produced. It was synthesized by Italian scientists Carlo Perrier and Emilio Segrè in 1937 by bombarding molybdenum with deuterons in a cyclotron. This synthetic element is widely used in medical imaging.
