Unfortunately, I am inclined to think common courtesy is like common sense, is not very common any more. However, there appears to be a grass roots movement of people teaching their children the basics.
I think this is one of those, "about time" things, considering that many businesses are having to send their young, up and coming executives to classes designed to teach them manners, etiquette and social customs.
