The story about how a gang of 42 young people mocked elisha. He was old and deserving of respect as someone made in the image of god. He was also a prophet. A curse was called upon this gang of thugs because of their cruelty and two she bears came to the defense of god's anointed. If the gang of five or six that tormented that elderly woman on the school bus had been taught to respect their peers and adults as people made and loved by jesus...then maybe they could have avoided the dire rebuke they've earned.
Jesus demonstrates respect when being obedient to the Father. There comes a point in Jesus journey (crucifixion) when he becomes fearful and really doesn't want to face what lies a ahead. He prays in the garden of Gethsemane to God asking if it can be done any other way His obedience is demonstrated when he puts his feelings aside and tells the Father he will accept whatever God's will may be.
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."
42 He went away a second time and prayed,"My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done."
