Digestive Systm
The stomach
The alimentary canal performs all the functions of preparing eaten food for absorption into your body, Without it, their would be no digestive system or digestion. Life would not be possible.
Almost all of the food you take in is absorbed in the small intestine. Most of the water you drink is absorbed in the large intestine.
Folds and projections of alimentery canal increase surface area for digestion and absorption of food.
mouth (oesophagus)
For food to properly pass through the alimentary canal, digestion must first occur. The process of moving food through the alimentary canal is called propulsion.
Alimentary canal.
Think of the alimentary canal as being a tube that carries and processes food. The liver processes/cleans blood and stores energy, and is not directly associated with the processing of food...therefore not part of the alimentary canal.
Maximum digestion takes place in duodenum .
The involuntary motion that moves food through the alimentary canal is called peristalsis and is a wavelike contraction and relaxation of the intestinal wall smooth muscles. It pushes food along the intestine.
colon
The muscular movement of the intestinal canal is called peristalsis.
In alimentary canal from throat to stomach.
