A:The Gospel now known as John's Gospel does not mention the disciple John, but does mention John the Baptist several times.

The Gospel was originally written anonymously, and the Church Fathers of the second century decided that the failure to mention the disciple John was modesty on the part of the author, so on this slim basis attributed the Gospel to John.

A:

All four New Testament gospels mention John the Baptist. The synoptic gospels, which have the closest literary relationship, describe John as being executed soon after the baptism of Jesus, or around 29 CE. John's Gospel, which was loosely based on Luke's Gospel and is therefore further removed from Mark's Gospel, tells us that John was executed rather later, but still before the crucifixion of Jesus.
