The name Jojola came to be in the early 1700's at the Isleta Reservation. There was a revolt around 1732 by two Indians at the Isleta Pueblo outside of Albuquerque who both wanted to be Chief. Since they both couldn't be Chief and the original name was "Lenta", they split the tribe and half moved to El Paso and called themselves "Jojola". Over the last 300+ years, they have moved on and populated themselves all around the states although the number of "Jojola's" is still small. So, the answer is the name comes from Native American tribe of Isleta Pueblo.
