In our little community of Harding, IL, Spook Road lies just east of town a few miles. From downtown Harding, take 40th road east, cross Rt. 23, and continue east on 40 th Rd. half a mile, then turn left on the first road, which is 1950th Rd. This is a steep descent to a small bridge crossing the Indian Creek River. Teens frequent this bridge late at night, and tell tales of mysterious voices, laughter, and sometimes drums (?) coming from the darkness. This area is said to be haunted by the ghosts of an Indian attack from the 1830s only a short distance away (Google "Indian Creek Massacre"). Not a place for the faint of heart.
You can also get to "Spook Road" via Route 34, and living in Sandwich, IL that route was easiest for me. So going away from Sandwich, heading towards Leland stay on Rt.34. Continue past Somonauk. Once you're well past Somonauk, make a left onto E 1950th Road. This road is a long one so don't get worried! Then FINALLY after you drive past N 41st Road, you're almost there! Drive a little further and you'll find the woods. Keep going through the woods until you come across a bridge...if you've found the bridge, then you've found "Spook Road"! Congratulations! Want more fun? There's a "hidden" cemetery literally just up the road. Once you've finished exploring the bridge and want to see the cemetery, jump back in the car and continue forward on E 1950th Road. You'll come to a stop sign. Make a left onto N 40th road. You'll go past a few houses, then you'll drive REAL close to the woods. SLOW DOWN! If you pay close attention (looking left towards the woods), there should be a large log on the ground marking the entrance to the "hidden" cemetery.
Head north on Rt. 23. Take a right onto 42nd rd. then a right onto 1950 rd. You'll know it is spook road because the road suddenly becomes engulfed and surrounded by the woods around it.
