It really depends what sort of place you like. Luton is actually part of one large settlement that incorporates Luton, Dunstable and Houghton Regis. You might like to live somewhere near Dunstable Downs if you like walking or kite-flying. If you like shopping you might like to be near the Arndale centre. Also, there are lots of small, rural villages just outside Luton (about 20 minutes to commute). North of Luton you might want to look at Toddington (lots of handy shops, small town feel) or Harlington (fewer shops, more of a village feel), or Wingfield of Tebworth (very rural - just a puband houses). You might also want to look at Sundon and Streatley, and Caddington to the South. Really, I would suggest spending a day or a weekend in the area, driving through the villages and through Luton itself, and have a look in some of the estate agents' windows (Toddington and Harlington both have estate agents as well). In the villages, you will find that people are very friendly and would be happy to tell you what life is like in the area and they will probably know of houses that are currently for sale as well, and the sort of prices that they are going for at the moment.
