The fuel filter is located on the driver side on the firewall. You have to remove the battery and tray. Remove the brake fluid revevoir and put it to one side. Remove the windshield water reservoir completely. You should be able to the fule filter. Careful removing the filter. The gas lines will be on tight. Use two wrenches, one to hold the filter and the other to remove the nut. This little project will take about an hour to finish. But it will save you about 70 to 90 dollars. good luck and I hope this updated answer helps someone...
AnswerIt should be in the engine compartment, mounted to the firewall. I believe you have to remove the battery and battery box to get to it.If its an automatic tranny then its in the same area as the ECU behind the stereo
It's located under the passenger side of the car, just forward of the rear tire for a 96 Eagle Talon 2.0 Non Turbo FWD. Not sure for the TSI model.
It is located on the left side, engine compartment, underneath the battery compartment.

On my 91 talon, it is on the firewall, just left of center and it is an sob to r&r. Rechecked after installing as mine has leaked and I had to replace it as it was not quite right.
Under the battery and windshield wiper fluid container.
on the transaxle
behind the radio
about 195 if a 5 speed and 186 to 190 if its an automatic
Should be a 4 speed.
Its on the oil filter housing. About a 1 inch cylinder, with a single wire coming off of it.
If its an automatic the transmission is slipping and will either need a fluid and filter change or rebuilt altogether. If it a straight drive it may need a synchronizer replaced
