The US issued a couple of types of gold $1 coins during the 19th century. There are pictures linked below.If you're referring to current US $1 coins they're brass, not gold. The US Mint's website has lots of photos.
The first English Pennies were produced around 780 AD and were made from gold. The Canterbury Mint where the coins were minted, often put writing and runes or designs on the coins. A little while later, they began to put images of the King on the coins.
There are many coins that are sold on the website Golden Eagle Coins for it's customers. The website focuses mainly on older coins that are silver and gold and even purchases both.
FIFA coins are available at the Httpwwwff14mallcom website but I have not purchased them from that website.
A great number of artists have produced the art for the various coins.
Nobody invented it. The traditional English coins were originally based on those current in the Dark Ages in western Europe.
