A Molex power connector is a 4-pin power connector found in most computer power supplies. It is used to provide power to large internal drives like hard drives and CD/DVD drives. They are slowly being replaced by SATA power connectors, which are easier to install can cannot be inserted incorrectly.

They should not be confused with a Berg connector which is much smaller and is used to power floppy drives.

The molex connector is used for IDE drives

The Molex connector has 4 wires. 1 yellow, 1 red, 2 black.

The color of the cable tells you the voltage:

Black = Ground

Yellow = +12v

Red = +5v

These colors are typically universal for all computer power supplies and components.

The SATA power connector (which is black, has 5 wires (red, yellow, 2 black, and one orange) which connect to the back of your hard diskThere's also the SATA data transfer cable, it's a thin (usually red) cable that connects to the motherboard to your hard drive.
