Inside the trunk on the inside fender, wire with a plastic handle. If you don't see it, it may have slipped behind the material.
You have to remove the inside door panel to get access to the door handle nuts.

To fix a fuel door release switch on a 1998 Lincoln Mark VIII, first, check the fuse associated with the fuel door release to ensure it's not blown. If the fuse is intact, inspect the switch for any visible damage or loose connections. If necessary, remove the switch from the panel by unscrewing it, then test it with a multimeter to confirm it's functioning properly. If the switch is faulty, replace it with a new one, reconnect it, and reassemble the panel.
