A "strut" is a rod or bar forming part of a framework and designed to resist compression as such it is used to reinforce the shelf by preventing it sagging in the middle. So ti is located in the middle.

It is located under the hood on the passenger side. Look on the front side of strut tower, it is mounted on the strut tower.
All Toyota Camry's have struts in the front. This is also accompanied with strut mounts and bearings that are located between the mount & strut. I highly recommend replacing the mounts & strut bearings with the struts. My experience has shown that the mounts fail before the strut.

It is located on the passenger side firewall in the engine compartment, right next to the strut housing.
