The ECM or ECU is located inside the vehicle that the engine is installed in. These units are never mounted on the engine.
The ECM is located under the coolant reserve tank and mounted to the front of the strut tower. Only a single nut holds it in place. once you remove the nut simply pull it out.
Within the distributor. Many people [including some auto parts stores] often confuse the ECM with the ICM [Ignition Control Module], which *is* located in the distributor. The ECM in this case is usually mounted under the driver's seat.
The cps other wise know as crank position sensor shows the ecm that the engine is turning over and then the ecm turns on the spark and the fuel to allow the car to start. If the cps is bad the ecm won't see the engine turning over so in turn it won't allow fuel our spark.
It may be that the engine coolant temprature sensor has gone faulty. It may well be sending the wrong signal to the ECM causing the ECM to think the engine is hot when in fact the engine is cold.
