There are a few mines known as the worst mining areas in New Zealand. These are Brunner, Kaitangata, Strongman Mine, Dobson Mine, Glen Afton Mine, and Pikes River among others.
A recent mining accident occurred at the Pike River mine in New Zealand in 2010 when 29 men sadly lost their lives. In 1993 in Ecuador approximately 300 people died at Namjiba. In 1942 the worst disaster happened in China when 1,549 miners died at Benxihu colliery.

Exceeding the Napier earthquake in which 256 people died by one death. New Zealand is a small country so most people knew someone who died on the flight.
