The firing order for this engine should be: 1, 3, 7, 2, 6, 5, 4, 8. The first cylinder location on your distributor cap should have a raised ridge. Cylinder 1 is the frontmost cylinder on the passenger side of the motor, and four is the rearmost cylinder on that side. The other side starts at 5 at the front, through 8 at the rear.
5 - unless you have a high volume oil pan - and then if varries a lot.
The Windsor is a small block, basically an enlarged 289. The Cleveland is a big block, more high performance. You can tell the difference from the outside by looking at the valve cover. The Cleveland has 8 bolts securing it down * the Windsor has 5. Also the thermostat cover bolts to the block on a Cleveland and to the intake on a Windsor. Neil
