Probably on the backside of the engine on the passenger side. I recall that I can barely see that filter on my '96 from the engine compartment, and then only because I learned where to look by crawling under the car.
To actually get at it, you have to raise the front end of the car. Remember that this is a serious safety issue. Don't use just the jack. Ramps are better, if you have access to a set. Or be damned sure that the car is blocked up with some beefy railroad tie pieces. Make sure the car is in gear and that the rear wheels are chocked! We want you coming back here for a long time. We don't want to see you smooshed (highly technical term)
You know, commercial oil change places are pretty cheap. I let them do it for me. I don't feel like dealing with oily messy stuff too much any more! If you live near, and have access to, a military installation, most have auto craft centers that will change oil for you cheap! Like in the $10 range (you bring the oil and the filter)
FriPilot
4.5 quarts
on the firewall side of the engine...passenger side
4.5-5
On the oil pan near the top. Under the engine. About middle of the car.
Go to an auto parts store and ask them.
on the 2.4 its to the left of the starter above the oil filter
just behind the right front wheel ( passengers side)
Trick question there is no 2004 Pontiac sunbird. 1994 sunbirds which is the last year have the oil filter by the right side wheel well, this is similar for the "Sunfire" of later years.
just above the oil filter
The Oil Filter is on the top of the engine, to the left of the valve cover. It has a plastic cap that can be wrenched off. The Oil Filter is not a sealed filter that you are used to seeing. It drops in where you removed the black cap.
if you have the 2.2 eco tec look on top of the motor 2 the right you will see a black cap that takes a 1 1/4 socket you will need a extension to get @ this
usually with the vehicle running and in park then check the dip stick
