It is located under the hood directly below the inside corner of passenger headlight mounted on the radiator support. There are black and green wires that runs to the plug-in from the wire harness that runs all across the front. Costs between $12 and $16 to replace and is VERY easy to do. Hi, The temperature sensor should be mounted just in front of the condenser/radiator, usually on the passenger side of the frame. I have include a link that shows an actual picture of where the sensor is located on a 2001 model, and I'm pretty sure the model years 2000-2004 are the same.

There are several temperature sensors on a 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo. A temperature sensor for outside temperature is located near the passenger side wheel underneath the vehicle. A manifold temperature sensor is located in the manifold. There is also an air temperature sensor in the hose that leads from the air filter to the motor. Still another temperature sensor is the thermostat in the upper radiator hose near the water pump.
