In the red bone marrow. There is very little red bone marrow present in adults because most of it transformed into yellow bone marrow. However; hemopioesis occurs in the flat bones, including sternum, ribs, and pelvis where red bone marrow still remains in adulthood.
Erythropoiesis mainly takes place in the bone marrow of the long bones.
the red bone marrow produces red and white cells and platelets, while they are found in more children than in adults. The yellow bone marrow consist of fats.

Erythropoiesis, the production of red blood cells, occurs primarily in the bone marrow of human adults.
In the spleen of babies and the bone marrow of children and adults
At birth, all bone marrow is red. With age, more and more of it is converted to the yellow type. About half of adult bone marrow is red. Red marrow is found mainly in the flat bones. In cases of severe blood loss, the body can convert yellow marrow back to red marrow to increase blood cell production.
Only the red bone marrow of the - pelvis, - vertebrae, - ribs, skull, - sternum, - sacrum, and the - proximal ends of femurs produce new blood cells in adults.
Red blood cells are found in red marrow. Adults have on average about 2.6kg (5.7lbs) of bone marrow, with about half of it being red. Red marrow is found mainly in the flat bones such as hip bone, breast bone, skull, ribs, vertebrae and shoulder blades, and in the cancellous ("spongy") material at the proximal ends of the long bones femur and humerus.
