The retina contains two types of photoreceptors, rods and cones. The rods can be defined as more numerous, some 120 million and are more sensitive than cones. Rods are not sensitive to color. The 6 to 7 million cones provide the eyeÕs color sensitivity and they are much more concentrated in the central yellow spot known as the macula.

there are 3 layer in our eye which protect us. In that 3rd layer is retina. It is in inner most of 3 surface of our eyes. It has thousands of rod cells and cone cells. The retina is the layer of cells in the back of the eyes responsible for detecting light, which in turn allows you to see. The specific cells responsible for detecting light are the photoreceptors, more commonly referred to as rods and cones.
