will a 4.3l vortec starter fit a 305 vortec?
Could be a bad battery or starter.
A small flywheel needs to stay with the starter that goes to it. You can use either flywheel, and the block should be drilled for either starter.

Passenger side under the two back cylinders. Two bolts go through the bottom of the starter into the bottom of the block.
Check the backlash between the starter drive and the ring gear after installation. If it's too tight, use shims.
Yes, a FI 350 starter can fit a 305 carburetor, provided that the mounting and compatibility requirements are met. However, since the starter and carburetor serve different functions in the engine, it's essential to ensure that any modifications or installations do not interfere with the engine's performance. Always consult compatibility guides or a professional mechanic for specific applications.
Depends on what the 305 is in, a 305 camaro engine needs like a 9 tooth starter because the fly wheel is 12.75 inches in diameter with 50 some teeth. A 305 in a Chevy half ton will have like a ten tooth starter for the 14.25 inch diameter flywheel that has like 60 some teeth. All 305 engines before 1986 are the same they did have different flywheels for what ever Chevy put them in. 1986 and newer 305's had different cranks the flywheel bolts up different on a 1986 305 compared to a 1983 305.
On the passenger side of the engine, whether is a 250, 305 or 350, disconnect your battery & go under the car on the passenger side. Disconnect the 2 wires on the starter solenoid & then take out the two bolts holding your starter to your engine. Installation is the reversal of this.
