It turns off just fine in MY 03 passat.
It should be located on the housing for the air filter. You see, the job of the air intake temp. sensor is to moniter the air coming thru to the throttle body. It reads the air temp. that is flowing thru the air filter and intake sends that info to the computer so the comp. can send the proper signals to the other engine sensors to adjust air and fuel mix. etc. etc. so, check the housing where the air flows thru and look for a plug with a couple of wires attchd. that should be it.Good Luck.mrkhh
Check your ambient temperature sensor located behind the front grill. Also if you are getting false temp. readings on your dash or it is stuck at fifty degrees, then it is definitly your sensor.
