U.S. maps have no area referred to as the Asiatic Sea. Nim's Island, which referenced this, is located in the southern part of the huge area, Polynesia, which covers a triangle from Hawaii to New Zealand to Easter Island. More specifically Nim's Island is part of the southern group of Cook Islands, located south of Kiribati and the Line Islands, east of Tonga and Fiji (Melanesia), and just west of French Polynesia. Nim's Island is probably about 500 miles southwest of Tahiti. There is an airport at Rarotonga (a Cook Island close to Nim's) which i think connects to Fiji which connects to Hawaii, New Zealand, etc. That said Nim's about as far away from continental land mass as you can get. I'm guessing Australia is about 2500 miles west and South America is at least 3000 to 3500 miles east over a very vacant South Pacific. I hope someone found this helpful :) and please comment if I'm mistaken about any of this.
The strait at the entrance to the Black Sea that connects the European and Asiatic sides of Turkey is called Bosporus. The shores along the strait have areas that are highly populated.
