What does The Bible teach Christians about looking after the environment?

This is an interesting question.

Genesis 1

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

There are other rules written in Exodus and Leviticus concerning how Israel was to camp and what was to remain in the camp and what was to remain outside the camp. Further there are rules in Leviticus specific to planting and all other sorts of issues which today are considered environmental issues.

The thing to remember is this earth belongs to our Father. Our Father designed this earth (Isaiah 45:18), therefore don't loose common sense and become unreasonable, when dealing with Environmental issues. Mankind simply is not smart enough to understand the entire complexity of its operation and how individual issues contribute to its successful function.

Don't be easily swayed by people who follow the dialectic based theories of Karl Marx, especially Metabolic rift (now called Climate Change or biospheric rift). Use the common sense our Father provided each person it will always lead one to the correct conclusion.

Our Father was well aware of what mankind was capable of, that is why he made this 2nd earth iteration temporary (14,000 years or 2 weeks in maximum length). We will reach the end of that 14000 year period in about 30 years. After that, mankind will no longer exist, therefore their environmental issues will no longer be a problem. Until that time, each person doing their personal best to respect our Fathers earth, should be well sufficient. Take responsibility for ones own actions and respect our Fathers earth which he provided for us, knowing that each soul will be judged according to their works by faith (Revelation 20).

ANOTHER ANSWER:

God gave the earth to MAN... not "Christians."

It's the earth that sustains man... physically. So, it's only logical that man is responsible for his continued existence on earth.

"The LORD placed the man in the Garden of Eden TO TEND AND CARE FOR IT." (Gen.2:15 NLT New Living Translation)

Bible prophecy assures man that his careless destruction of the earth will not go unpunished in the Judgment... even though man's ongoing pollution of the earth already plagues him:

"'We give thanks to you, LORD God Almighty, the One who IS and who ALWAYS WAS, for now you have assumed your Great Power and have begun to reign... It is time to Judge the dead and reward your servants. You will reward your prophets and your Holy People, all who fear your Name, from the least to the greatest. And YOU WILL DESTROY ALL WHO HAVE CAUSE DESTRUCTION OF THE EARTH.'" (Rev.11:17-18 NLT)

The Bible isn't just aimed at so-called "Christians"... but at ALL OF MANKIND! There weren't any "Christians" on earth when God placed MAN in the Garden.
