The answer is - it depends. Stillwater if mentioned numerous times in the books. So, yes, he did write about it and it is Stillwater, Minnesota. But if you mean is this where Karl-Oskar and Christina lived, the answer is no. They lived in/near Ki-Chi-Saga - known today as Chisago City also near Lindstrom and Center City. The region is called the Chisago Lakes area. Stillwater is the town that Karl-Oskar and Christina came to by boat and then, from there, they walked up the St. Croix River Valley and found their land near Ki-Chi-Saga, that is, the Chisago Lakes area. Today, Stillwater is a beautiful river town that, due to its in-tact mainstreet with buildings from the 1870s-1900, reminds very much of what the town once looked like. It located on the St. Croix River with beautiful parks and surrounded by hills with dramatic limestone cliffs all of which are graced with churches and Victorian style homes from the late 1800s. Stillwater is known as the birthplace of Minnesota because it was (nearly) the first settlement in Minnesota and it was the town from which the delegation left from Minnesota to D.C. in order to ask that Minnesota be made a state.
