What is the Host File? It's a list of computers/hosts and there IP address. You put in it hosts that you regularly visit to speed up access to those hosts by avoiding having to look up the IP address from the host name. The hosts files are located on ones computer within the operating system. hosts file is my guess /etc/hosts windooze/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
The hosts file only redirects addresses, not specific pages. However, you COULD do this. Here's how... You have to be running a web server on your machine like IIS, Apache, whatever. Have your display page set up with the name "default.htm" or "index.html" or whatever based upon your webserver's setting. Then, in your hosts file, add this line 127.0.0.1 [hostname] So, if you want the computer to display something when the user goes to google.com, you'd have to have 127.0.0.1 google.com on its own line. Great prank to play on housemates... :D
