on a laptop it is on either the left or right side. The sign that indicates that is is the port looks like a dot with a cord that branches off into three, two of them are dots and the middle one is an arrow.

The most common place for a USB port to be is on the rear of the computer. close to the upper, middle of the computer. You are looking for a narrow slot that is about 1/4" by 3/8"... a vertical, rectangular hole. There are also usually (on newer computers) a few of these ports located on the front of the machine. The device or cable that you are plugging into the port will only fit one way, so don't force it.

It is commonly at the back of the unit. For some reasons and for easier access, some CPU cases have USB port in front of the case. Look for rectangular slot that fits for the USB.

There will normally be two at the back, one above the other, and then possible some at either side (opposite to the disk drive) and there will be either one, or two next to each other.
