The Grand Cherokee cycling switch is located on the right side of the engine compartment and on top of the accumulator (8 inch tall black can with two (2) refrigerant lines). You will also see an electrical connector equipped with two (2) wires. This switch (cycling switch) will routinely cycle the compressor clutch on and off. In addition, under "low" pressure conditions (either no refrigerant gas or something less than 26 lbs) the compressor clutch will drop out and not operate. This safety feature is by design. Remember, compressor oil is "picked up" and circulated by the flow of the refrigeration gas. Bypassing the cycling switch should only be done with caution and after connecting a set of manifold gauges. Verify there is at least 26 lbs or more of refrigerant in the system. With that said, there will be sufficient oil flowing to lubricate the compressor. There also exists a compressor relay and fuse. Verify their integrity before bypassing the cycling switch. If you are attempting to diagnose a cycling switch problem, you can use a ohm meter across the switches' open terminals. With at least 26 lbs of refrigerant in the system; you will have continuity. Be careful and understand the consequences of what you do and before you do it.

There is a low pressure switch that may be indicating lower pressure. If you do not hav eenough fluid in your system it will cause this affect.
