You reach the attic by entering the armory. After you enter the armory you fire all three cannon balls by using the candles in the Main Hall. Now, climb the cannon and enter the what I call "Storage" room. Climb the first leaf and use the crossbow you found in the Armory and shoot one or two in the wall. Climb the arrows quick, they will fall after 5 or so seconds of you standing on them. Enter the attic and use the crowbar to remove the wooden planks from the window.

The crossbow is in the Armory, through the locked door on the left side of the library. You can use it to climb the sheer wooden walls outside the castle and inside the armory attic. Shoot arrows into the wall and climb them before they fall out (shoot the lower ones first and then move your aim higher). Some arrows may become permanently stuck in a wall, and will not fall out even when you climb on them.
