Directly on top of the transmission. Since it isn't turbo model, it should be fairly easy to get to. Just remove the air intake tube and look at the top of the tranny from there, it will have a plug with two wires and is almost directly under the battery.
On a 1999 Saturn vehicle, the backup light switch is located on top of the shift housing, which is situated on the top of the transmission. This switch requires a 7/8' wrench for removal.

If you look at the driver's side of the transmission where the linkage hooks to the transmission you will see a switch there. that is it and it is called a neutral safety switch. It is all built in 1 thing now.
