Apart from other references by Paul and others, the most famous reference by Christ himself comes in his great commission at the end of Matthew's gospel where Christ tells his disciples to ''baptise in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit'.

There is no Scriptural reference to the spurious trinity theory. According to the New Roman Catholic New Theological Dictionary concerning the Scriptural teaching of the nature of the Holy Spirit, in its article, 'Trinity,' acknowledges: "As such, the Spirit is never the explicit object of NT worship, nor is the Spirit ever represented in NT discourse as interacting in an interpersonal way with the Father and the Son."

When looking at the source of development for this human attempt to describe the Christian Godhead in "Chirstian" theology, we discover that in the late second and early third centuries, the names Tertullian and Origen keep coming up. Catholic sources admit that they "adapted much of the Hellenic worldview... [Tertullian made] the first known use of the term 'trinity" (New Theological Dictionary, p. 1.054).

The Holy Spirit is not a separate person or being, but is rather the power and the means by which God transmits His will, influence and presence.

Rather than describing the Holy Spirit as a distinct person or entity, The Bible most often refers to it as, and connects it with, God's divine power (Zechariah 4:6; Micah 3:8). Jewish scholars, examining the references to it in the Old Testament Scriptures, have never defined the Holy Spirit as anything but the power of God.

In the New Testament, Paul referred to it as the spirit of power, love and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Informing Mary that Jesus would be supernaturally conceived in her womb, an angel told her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you . . . ," and he defined this as "the power of the Highest," which "will overshadow you" (Luke 1:35).

Through the working of the power of God's Spirit, humans may be led to repentance and understanding and then following baptism and the laying on of hands be transformed and empowered to live by God's Word.

The Apostle Paul comments on Gods' work (obviously through His Spirit) of leading one to repentance.

Romans 2:4 "Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Notice the comment of Jesus concerning the working of God's Spirit with the apostles before the Day of Pentecost and the special giving of the Holy Spirit, "the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you." (John 14:17) Jesus went on to explain how the Holy Spirit will be working even more powerfully after they have received power from on high. (Luke 24:49) Further, in John 14:26, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you."

The apostle Peter understood some significant truths before the special indwelling of God's Sprit given on the Day of Pentecost. "Simon Peter answered and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.' Jesus answered and said to him, 'Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven'" (Matthew 16:16-17).

Currently, the God Family consist of the Father and the Son. His great plan for humankind is to include the willing into this family as sons and daughters.

The concept of the Holy Trinity arose in the third century of Christianity and was formally adopted by the Council of Nicaea in the fourth century, after spirited argument. The Bible never mentions the Holy Trinity.

A passage known as the "Johannine Comma" (1 John 5:7) does refer indirectly to the concept of the Trinity, but was never in the early Greek manuscripts. The passage only appeared in the Latin translation of the fifth century, after the Trinity doctrine had been accepted by the Council of Nicaea.
