If you cant find the bonnet lever you will never ever find, let alone release, the safety catch once you have opened it, and propping the bonnet open, heaven forbid! (it's to hard to explain in words!)
I strongly suggest you go to a VX dealer, and ask to be shown how (we are mostly nice people, happy to assist the owner of our cars!).
I must say that the dealer that sold you the car should have shown/explained this to you at time of purchase.
Had you bought the car where I work, I would be ashamed at our failure to explain, and would readily assist and demonstrate until you were happy with your ability to do it your self.
