The brake booster is in the standard location, but it doesn't look anything like a traditional booster/master cylinder. It's a long two or three piece aluminum unit called the actuater in the shop manual. The plastic brake fluid tank is bolted to the top side of the unit. They're also obsolete and getting very expensive to replace. The manual claims there are no serviceable parts inside! most failures of power brake booster is the booster relay 23.00 dollars from dealer located near booster on firewall
It is on the driver side underneath the intake manifold. if you look between the brake booster and the manifold you can see it. good luck it is a pain to get to!
Remove the hydroboost unit from the firewall and replace it with the vacuum assisted booster. If you are careful you may be able to do this without disconnecting the brake lines. You will need new powersteering lines and find a vacuum source for the new booster.
The fuel pump relay should be located under the hood on firewall below the brake booster and just to the driver side of the engine housing.
Front or rear?
Could possibly be a leak in your brake booster. This happend on my 96' GMC 4x4. Hit the breaks it would hesitate to the point of killing the engine. ( this is caused because the motor has little to no vaccum with a leak in brake booster) vehicle will also be consuming more fuel.
In a hydroboost brake system, the power brake booster is designed to use hydraulic pressure from the power steering system rather than vacuum from the engine. If the booster continues to run after the ignition is turned off, it may be due to a malfunctioning hydraulic control valve or a leak in the system, allowing hydraulic pressure to persist. Additionally, a faulty switch or electrical issue could be keeping the system engaged, causing it to operate even without ignition. This could lead to unintended brake assistance or potential safety hazards.
Usually a brown wire located at the firewall next to the power steering booster. To the left of the booster looking from the front of the vehicle.
In park position Apply a soft pression on the brake pedal, Start the engine, if you feel a depression on the pedal, the brake booster is Ok. Otherwise be sure the vaccum line is OK. Good luck
It is behind (and touches) brake pedal.
I found mine on a stamped tag on the drivers side under the hood, just below the brake booster.
The starter relay operates the starter soleniod. The relay is located on the firewall at about the 8 O'Clock position looking at the brake booster. It has 4 wires in one connector going to it.
In the gas tank.
