Usually a brown wire located at the firewall next to the power steering booster. To the left of the booster looking from the front of the vehicle.
There are a few ways to set the timing on a 1994 Suburban 1500. Disconnect the connector firewall to loosen the distributor turning just a bit clockwise.
You MUST have a OBDII engine scanner to set the timing. It is computer controlled.
It does NOT have a timing belt, That engine has a timing chain and gears.
To set the timing on a 1988 Dodge Ram, first, ensure the engine is at operating temperature and then turn it off. Disconnect the timing connector, usually located near the distributor, to disable the computer-controlled timing. Use a timing light to check the current timing by aiming it at the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. Adjust the distributor by loosening its hold-down bolt and rotating it until the timing mark aligns with the specified degrees before top dead center (BTDC), then tighten the bolt and reconnect the timing connector.
To set the timing on a 1994 GMC Suburban you need to warm up the engine while the car is either in park or neutral. Next, you adjust the distributor until the timing is set to where you want it.
do it at normal operating temp...make your marks on the timing tab and the damper....on the drivers side of the firewall is a wireing harness...there should be a single wire sticking out ot it that is tan with a black stripe, unplug that wire connector to time engine....the check engine light will come on at dash....set timing...should be set to zero btdc...remember to plug connector at firewall back together when done.
ground the diagnostic connector under the dash , set the timing , then unplug connector
NO. A timing light will not work on that engine. You must have an obdII engine scanner to set the timing on that year.
how do you adjust the timing on a 1988 honda xr200
You can not use a timing light to set the timing on that year engine. The timing is computer controlled and it requires a engine scanner to set the timing.
The timing is controlled by the computer The base setting for all GM 1988 and above years start with 0 TDC and usually range from 2 deg to 10 deg above TDC. The computer controls if from the base setting at where it was set.
