To change the camshaft positioning sensor on a 98 GMC Jimmy you need to first locate it. The sensor is located within the distributor. Next, unbolt the old sensor and replace with a new sensor.

Your Jimmy has a crankshaft position sensor mounted by your crankshaft pully in the front of your engine on the bottom. If the senor is bad your engine does not recognize that your engine is turning and will not fire the plugs. Try changing your sensor and your engine should start.
There is no distributor. The PCM uses a crankshaft sensor and a camshaft sensor to determine when to fire the coils.
