The amp is located behind the spare wheel in the rear qrter panel, on the drivers side, remove the spare wheel, then there is a sound proof padding, remove that also then you can see an inner structural brase, the amp is located behind the brase and held in place by three philips screws.
There is an amp inside the radio unit. Depending on radio type used there may also be a secondary amp inside the trunk mounted high up just below the rear windshield.

you can ground it right to the frame. just find a bare spot and put a screw with the ground wire
On a 2003 Mercury Sable : In the Power Distribution Box ( which is " live " ) located in the front of the engine compartment by the battery ( # 30 is the fuel pump relay ) Also , # 16 is a 20 amp mini fuse for the fuel pump relay
it should be on the left side of the trunk underneath the carpeting. just pull that off and it's bolted to the side.
