The Float is Inside the carb. when the bowl fills up, the float goes up cutting off fuel from gas tank. It has a inlet needle connected to it that seals off the fuel...on older Tecumseh engines, the float is metal and will almost always after a time get a hole in it, which will keep the float from floating, and cause your carb. to flood.
