could be a host of things but one of the easiest to try would be your fuel filter. changed it lately? its located on the d-side inside of the frame rail. while you're at it check your air filter too.
I do not have a Z71, but my 2004 GMC does not have a fuel filter, very strange because when i go to a parts store they have one listed.
The 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe with the 5.3L V8 has an under-car EFI filter. The filter is a canister that is located on the fuel line towards the engine. The OE replacement EFI filter for this application is Hastings #GF347.

Maybe but it depends upon what you mean by "rear end". Do you mean the axle and axle housing or the body of the truck? Keep in mind a 2000 Silverado is a different generation than a 1997.
They have relocated the fuel filter in the Avalanches. They are now inside the fuel tank and built into the fuel pump.

I would say that the fuel filter is probley stoped up. If fuel filter is not restricked, Then check fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge.
