the fuel filter is located on top of the gas tank. it is easy to access from inside the trunk of the car. open the trunk pull the trunk mat back away from the top portion and you will see a silver cover/lid . this cover has 3 or 4 screws remove the cover and the fuel filter is underneath.
I just took mine to a mechanic to change the fuel filter on my '02 Mazda MPV "ES" and he showed me a diagram that indicates that it is located inside the Fuel Tank. He said that you have to take the Mini-Van with the tank almost empty. They'll have to remove the tank in order to replace the filter. The whole thing is schedule to be a 3 hours job, so if they charge by labor hour, you can figure out 3 X hourly rate. Hope this helps.

Access the filter thru the trunk. Pull the trunk carpet back near seat back. You'll see a plate with 3 screws, remove it and the filter is there. Relieve the fuel pressure first. Or replace after car has been sitting a while.
first you must remove the air filter then the air filter box it is held on by 3 or 4 bolts after taking out air filter box you will be able to access the fuel filter
