Where is the fuel filter located on an 86 yj with a straight 6 engine how big is it?

The fuel filter on my 87 YJ (straight six also) is located right in front of the carb. The line that runs into the carb from the filter is only a couple inches long. The filter itself is a cylinder abt 4-5 inches in diameter, smaller than a soda can but about the same shape.
