On the inside of the drivers side framerail, just below the drivers door. You'll need a special tool that removes the fuel line from the filter. You can get this tool at any parts store for 2 bucks.
Mine's a 2000. The fuel filter is at/in the top of the gas tank. Gotta be lowered to get to it.

Owners manual says: with filter change 4.5 U.S. qts. (4.3 liter) without filter - 4.2 U.S. qts. (4.0 liter)
WITH FILTER CHANGE - 6 quarts ( 5.7 liters )
