the gas tank is above all of the rear suspension, muffler and sway bar. if you are going to be doing anything with the fuel pump, or the top of the tank, you can cheat... if you lift up the carpet that lays flat on the shelf, there is the metal frame. it is very easy to axcess by cutting 3 sides of a rectangle out, leaving one side as a hinge. but be careful because the tank is only about 1 inch under the shelf. cut is approximately 8.5 x 11 (11" long as in nose to trunk). its best to use a dremmel CORDED hand grinder with a cutting wheel. you will need alot of these, as they tend to break pretty easily. then just disconnect the fuel lines (self explainitory), un screw the screws and lift the fuel pump out. the floating guage to the dash and everything is on the assembly.
that's how i changed the fuel pump on my 94 camaro Z28...
