I have an original 16 ga. nitro special made by Lefever. The sight bead is one eighth if an inch in diameter.

If it doesn't say Lefever somewhere on the gun, I don't think you have a Lefever.

In order to determine the age of Lefever shotgun, the serial number must be known. However, Lefever shotguns were only made and distributed between 1885-1916.

Depends somewhat on gauge of shotgun & condition. 410 usually goes for $350-$400 in very good condition.

as your looking down the gun, the gauge should be stamped on the left barrel back by the stock.

It should be stamped on the side of the receiver.

Your LeFever 16 in good shape is worth about $300. In excellent shape about $450. It is hard to grade a shotgun without seeing it. Most of the ones I have were good to poor. Your Lefever Nitro Special was actually mfg'd by Ithaca Arms Co about late 1921 or 1922. Ithaca Arms purchased the assets of Lefever Arms in 1916 and started Mfg Nitro Special in 1921. A friend of mine recently purch'd a 12 GA in fair to good condtion for $150.

Any old shotgun stamped "44 Cal." or using the number 44 is chambered for the cartridge which eventually was modified into today's .410 gauge bore. They reportedly fire the .410 ok, but are not as good generally as the true .410 shotgun.

Ithaca Firearms manufactured the Lefever Nitro Special shotgun with serial numbers between 101600 and 119899 in 1922.

The average cost of a Lefever Nitro Special shotgun at auction is $650. This amount may be higher or lower depending on the condition of the gun.
