Sandwiched between the heads and the engine block.
It costs between 30-40 dollars for the head gasket itself.
The 4.3 liter Chevy Astro head gasket torque specification is 160 pounds. The head gasket bolts should be torqued in 40 pound intervals.
About $40 for the gasket... And about book value of your car to replace them.
They only make 1 size head gasket. It don't matter if it is 10 20 30 40 or 60 over the factory head gasket will fit with no PROBLEM.
The exact cost to repair a blown head gasket on a Jeep Cherokee varies. It should run between 20 and 40 dollars.
A Head gasket seals the Cylinder Head 2 the block & could cost 20 or 30 Dollars 4 a weed wacker & 40 2 50 GRANG 4 a LARGE B0at
A pressure test on the cylinders will tell if you have a bad head gasket. If you hear a whistle sound near the intake gasket, spray WD-40 (or any type of petroleum spray) on the area and if there is a leak the engine rpms (or engine sound) should change.
Not to fear, it is not, was not the head. Replaced the oil seal on the crank, no more oil leaks. Cost: $40, parts and labor.
Not necessarily. Look at the codition of the head. Get hold of a metre long (3 foot/yard steel or aluminum rule) and put it across the head in different directions, logways, across, diagonal. This to check that the head hasn't warped. If it seems ok fit a new head gasket.AnswerThe above is good advice, your head is only likely to have warped if it overheated badly when the gasket blew... my 306 has now done 10,000 miles on its new head gasket and I didnt skim the head since it seemed ok... For the sake of an extra £40 id get it skimmed anyway! Our cambelt tensioner went last June so everything was replaced inc the head gasket...we didnt skim the head as it hadnt over heated but now 1 year on the head gasket has gone, this time ill be getting it skimmed. Its £40 and i wish id done it last time round as we`ve since been told that the head should be skimmed every time its taken off.Ours is a 1996 p reg 306 1.4....its done 20,000 since the head gasket was done but still shouldn't have gone yet!We are now looking at £70 for parts (inc spark plugs, head bolds, air filter etc) £40 for the head skimming and what we are paying to a mechanic to fix it....luckily its a friend doing it so this isn't much but it could have all been avoided by spending £40 last time!!Ann
It will depend on the shop and the experience of the staff on hand. The cost can be $40 to $80+ and it can take 30 minutes to a few hours.Ê
About £200 - £300 but if you have a good tool kit and a torque wrench and the Haynes manual it is not really that hard to repair yourself, which should cost about £40.
just did this on my 2000 cavalier for different reasons though. It was actually surprisingly cheap. Most of the gaskets can be reused unless they really worn out. The only real gasket you have to replace during the entire procedure is the head gasket and the cost of that is roughly $20. Oh, you will also need to buy about 5-6 cans of carb cleaner and a 3-pack of brass brushes. These can be obtained at your local Wal-Mart. So, in all, the cost of replacing a head gasket is about $40 max or you could always take it to a dealership or local mechanic and pay at least $300.
