Heat control is by air flow control doors in the a/c and heater box. There is no water valve.
Locating on a 1998 prizm - fine idea
Like most cars. The heater control valve is located inside the closed compartment with the heater core and the and the AC condenser. It is a door flap that seperates the heated air from the outside air, or the AC air.
It doesn't have a heater control valve. The coolant flows through the core at all times. Temp control is done only by air direction in the AC/heater box.
The heater control valve is mounted on the engine side of the heater and evaporator box which is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It will have at least three hoses connected to it and one vacuum line. It kind of hides underneath the a/c accumulator.
The heater control valve is under the hood on the passengers side of the motor and is located in one of the two garden size heater hoses entering the firewall and it is connected to a vacuum line which causes it to function.
