The world can be divided into 4 different hemispheres. If the world is divided in half vertically, there is the Eastern and Western Hemisphere. If the world is divided in half horizontally, there is the Northern as Southern Hemisphere. The New World was located in the Western Hemisphere, as most explorers would say. If one would want to be very specific, one could say that the New World was located in the North Western Hemisphere.
North and South America are in the Western Hemisphere. Except for Antarctica, which occupies both hemispheres, all other continents are in the Eastern Hemisphere.
