Well to get to the key, you have to first win the race that the guard comes and takes you to after you spend some time in the prison. Remember you have to win the race. After winning the race, you get to go to the Warden's room so he can read some poetry to you. While he's reading, you have to go to his desk. Over there, you will find three books. Open all three books and you will find the key inside one of them. But remember, do not make noise, and move slowly or else the Warden will turn around and catch you.

So you don't specifically "choose" your class and that class only permits you using particular weapons/spells, instead you can shape your class to become Warrior, Mage etc. Classes don't matter in the game I believe they're just there to make the game more interesting.
